Drugs – Why They Should Be Legal

Over 10 thousand deaths per year and with more than 51 billion dollars being spent annually against the war on drugs in the United States alone. With each year the illegal drug trade bringing in more than 435 billion dollars,it makes you wonder – is the war on drugs worth it? After all according to the United Nations it would only cost 30 billion dollars a year to end world hunger – 435 billion would go a long way.

The jobs created, the violence nearly gone, the money gained, the hunger diminished, the military veterans homed and with money to be spared – All of this could be a reality, if the prohibition ended.

People may be concerned that it would lead to more people trying drugs and resulting in more addiction problems. Well people don’t need a “big brother” A.K.A. the government looking over their shoulders for everything they do in their life. That being said, the government should not condone and let the drug companies advertise neither. Have it behind the counter with no labels or marketing at all. In-fact, still run anti-drug campaigns so society remains to realize that drugs can intensely change your life, for the worse. After all if someone really wants to get their hands on a bit of coke, do you think some drug laws are gonna stop them?

All the substances would be “pure”. No more cocaine or ecstasy mixed with rat poison or other severely dangerous substances. Did you know out of all the ecstasy the D.E.A. has recovered only 13% of it had any sort of MDMA in it (The main ingredient which gets you “high”). Wonder what the percentage of pure MDMA is in these pills? Not much. Mixing other substances in these drugs is one of the main reasons why there are so many deaths from “overdoses”. Just think about it, would you rather have a loved one getting an ecstasy pill from a sketchy drug dealer downtown, or one from a regulated government source that has the pure substance of what you’re buying. Heck, give a syringe with a purchase of heroine or other opiates – stop the H.I.V.

“Vote yes for medical cocaine today!”
